
Best selling author, one of the most beloved women in media
Television host and new mom, Joan Lunden has been a warm and welcome presence in American homes for over 20 years. As co-host of ABC's “Good Morning America,” she was always eager to feature the latest in parenting education and to support parents with the most up to-date information.
Lunden, a long-time vocal parenting advocate, has become a surrogacy enthusiast as well. She is the mother of five, including newborn twins Kate and Max, and has been honored as “Mother of the Year” by the National Institute of Infant Services; dedicating much of her career to educating parents. She has served as the national spokesperson for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, as well as the national chairperson for the American Lung Association’s campaign on the dangers of smoking and pregnancy. She has hosted the award-winning “Mother’s Day” program on Lifetime TV, Miracle Babies” on PAX-TV, the video “Your Newborn Baby” and was featured on the Lifetime Special “Mothers and Daughters’. Lunden is a member of the Red Cross' 2004 National Celebrity Cabinet. She can currently be seen on the Newborn Baby Channel, in hospital maternity wards and on www.ivillage.com.
A passion for disseminating wellness information, and inspiring people to take charge of their health and happiness has been at the forefront of many of Lunden’s projects. Lunden has hosted the “Avon Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer” Awards, the International Health and Medicine Media Awards (The Freddies) and the 60th Anniversary of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. This spring, Lunden acted as the Mistress of Ceremonies for The Albert Einstein College of Medicine's 50th annual Spirit of Achievement Awards- an award which she had been been honored with in 1987.
Recently, Lunden finished her eighth season as executive producer and host of he A&E series “Behind Closed Doors with Joan Lunden,” currently airing on The Biography Channel. She has also written four best-selling inspirational books: “Wake-Up Calls;” “Joan Lunden’s Healthy Cooking;” “Joan Lunden’s Healthy Living;” and “A Bend in the Road is not the End of the Road.” Joan’s next book, “Growing Up Healthy;” a guide to the latest findings on childhood nutrition for a new generation of parents was released this spring by Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.
Lunden’s dedication to her family, her work and her sense of civic responsibility has earned her numerous honors and awards, some of which include a Day-time Emmy Award for Good Morning America, the Spirit of Achievement Award from Albert Einstein College of Yeshiva University, YWCA Outstanding Women’s Speaker Award, National Women’s Political Caucus Award, New Jersey Division on Civil Rights Award and Baylor University Woman of the Year Award. The New York Women in Communications honored Lunden with a Matrix Award for her “outstanding contributions to the broadcasting field.” As a result of her in-depth coverage of our Armed Forces, the U.S. Army honored Ms. Lunden with the Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service, the highest honor given to a civilian.
Lunden resides with her husband, businessman Jeff Konigsberg and their children in Connecticut.
