Supermodel
Cheryl Tiegs defines "Supermodel". Beyond her cover girl status, Cheryl Tiegs is an astute businesswoman and avid spokesperson for health and fitness. She is acknowledged as an icon for women of all ages.
At 17, Cheryl made the covers of Glamour, Seventeen and Elle. She segued seamlessly from ingénue to high fashion, eventually gracing the covers of Vogue and Bazaar. Cheryl found herself in high demand. She was the first model to appear three times on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She also made the cover of Time magazine three times, most notably for the cover story when Time named her "The All-American Model" at the age of 31. Cheryl’s career was groundbreaking, not only for being the first to defy age boundaries, but also for her keen business sense. In 1979, she started a signature line of clothing and accessories at Sears. The Cheryl Tiegs line was hugely successful and sold nearly a billion dollars of merchandise in its 10-year span. Cheryl helped turn the company around, which led to another Time cover, this time for "Sassy Sears". At the time, the move to go mass-market was considered controversial. Now, many models and celebrities have followed in her footsteps.
Cheryl continues her successful career with frequent modeling and television appearances. In 1996, she appeared in yet another Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. And twenty-nine years after her first swimsuit cover, Cheryl appeared in a bikini on the cover of More magazine. Her television work includes recent guest appearances on NBC’s "Just Shoot Me", Oxygen’s "Girls Behaving Badly", and as host for a 13-part travel adventure series, "Pathfinders: Exotic Journeys", for the Travel Channel. She has served as both host and guest on shows focusing on issues of fitness, fashion and beauty, including serving as spokeswoman for, "Renewal: a time for you", a program created by Deepak Chopra, M.D., which offers practical advice on choosing healthy lifestyle changes for women in transition. And in 2002, Cheryl launched a skincare line for ShopNBC, which includes anti-aging cleansers, moisturizers and Diamabrasion -- a unique resurfacing system that polishes skin with actual diamonds!
Today, Cheryl Tiegs looks and feels better than ever. As Cheryl has observed, "Beauty has no age boundary. What it means to be 30, 40, and 50 is completely changing." Cheryl is committed to healthy and balanced living with daily meditation and exercise, such as yoga and hiking. Cheryl is active in the philanthropic community, serving on the board of C.O.A.C.H. for Kids, the Earth Conservation Corps, as a spokesperson for City of Hope and an Ambassador for the International Planned Parenthood Foundation. Among her other accomplishments, Cheryl has authored The Way to Natural Beauty and created and was featured in Sports Illustrated's exercise video "Aerobic Interval Training". Born in Minnesota, Cheryl moved to Southern California at the age of 5 and later defined the California look. She lives in Los Angeles.
